D. G. Shibano started her art career as a teenager in Queens, New York , where she had her first one person show. She trained at NYC’s Art Students League in figurative and still life painting with Andrew Lukach and Vyclav Vytlacil, among others. It was there that she received recognition, awards and support for her relentless drive to learn and explore different mediums of artistic expression. Finding herself in the middle of the post abstract-expressionist movement and the start of minimalism in New York City... She too became immersed in the world of abstract art.
It was only after her move to the West Coast and many years of exploring various art forms, that she felt compelled to attempt to translate the beautiful landscape of California to canvas and paper. Following in the footsteps of the California Plein-Air Painters, Ms. Shibano sets up her easel along side of the road, on the top of a hill or in an open meadow.
Her goal now is to continue to meet the challenge of embodying her work with the energy and beauty which she experiences and sees around her.
She is presently represented by Main Elements Gallery in Calistoga, CA, and Artists Alley Gallery in San Francisco, CA.
